Through the guidance of the Enform Alcohol and Drug Task Force, Enform has developed numerous tools for employers to address the issue of alcohol and drugs in the workplace.

Here is a concise list of the tools available:

  1. The Alcohol and Drug Policy Model - for the Canadian Upstream Petroleum Industry (September 2007) incorporates up-to-date independent legal and medical opinions as well as a number of other useful resources for employers. A PDF version of the Policy Model is available free-of-charge.


    Printed versions of the Alcohol and Drug Policy Model - for the Canadian Upstream Petroleum Industry can be obtained by visiting our bookstore for a modest charge.

  2. The Alcohol and Drugs - Awareness Video lets us hear from a number of industry players and experts on why the alcohol and drug issue is so important to employers.

  3. Policy Implementation Workshop on the Canadian Upstream Petroleum Industry Alcohol and Drug Policy Model

    This half-day workshop was developed and endorsed by the six sponsoring associations of Enform. The primary audience consists of managers overseeing operations. This instructor-led, classroom lecture provides an overview of the Model and basic guidance in the implementation of an Alcohol and Drug policy. Topics include work rule and implementation, compliance and testing programs.

  4. Supervisory Workshop on the Canadian Upstream Petroleum Industry Alcohol and Drug Policy Model

    This half-day workshop was developed and is endorsed by the six sponsoring associations of Enform. This workshop differs from the Policy Implementation Workshop in that the primary audience consists of supervisors who understand their company's alcohol and drug and performance management policies and are responsible for implementing them in the workplace.

    This Workshop is in pilot stages as of March 2008.

  5. Gap Analysis Matrix

    This checklist allows companies with existing policies to measure against the Policy Model, and document any gaps with recommendations for closing them. The corresponding section in the Policy Model is referenced for ease of correlation.

  6. Policy Template

    This document helps identify the required elements for those employers drafting an organizational policy statement in line with the Policy Model.

  7. Alcohol and Drug Testing Guide

    The Policy Model contains numerous circumstances for testing and what the related response can be. This document gathers them all up in a single document with references to what infrastructure is needed to support the testing, along with the specific section reference in the Policy Model.

    This worksheet is intended to assist you in developing and implementing an Alcohol and Drug (A&D) policy for your company. It is used in conjunction with the other documents listed on this page.

We have compiled a list of resources that provides useful program advice, statistics, links to services, communication materials and more. As well, included are a number of relevant court and human rights case summaries relating to Alcohol and Drugs This summary was prepared in May 2006.

As part of the ongoing work of the A&D Task Force, a brief review of the current state of POCT testing was prepared. Industry has expressed great interest in this type of testing. This brief review (prepared in September 2006) is available here
